Today I bought a few new carnivorous plants.
- Cephalotus follicularis
- Darlingtonia californica
- Nepenthes jacquelineae
- Nepenthes ramispina
- Nepenthes singalana
- Nepenthes vogelii
Am extremely happy I finally found 2 that I’ve been looking for (the Cephalotus and Darlingtonia). All of these plants are still very tiny – the Cephalotus’ pitchers are about 9mm in height, and the Darlingtonia pitchers are about 25mm high. Photos of these 2 follow (no photos of the Nepenthes yet)

It’s been a while since my last post due to me buying myself a new toy. I now (finally) have a DSLR camera. It’s a Canon EOS 550D, with a nice little EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro lens – very nice
I have some photos of plants that have been in flower, but will post them a little later on. However, this post won’t be lacking in photos as I bought a few plants @ Duckitt’s yesterday (their first open day of 2010) The plants I bought were:
- Cymbidium Hot Doll (registration pending – parents: C. Kusuda Shining x (C. Kusuda Shining x C. Dolly “Heatherhill”)
- Hawkinsara X Cattleytonia Capri “Lea”
- Polystachya Frieda’s Blush (P. Darling Rose “Cape Strawberry” x P. longiscapa “Jupiter”)
- Laelia rubescens (the very same plant I recently bought from Plantae – smaller, though)
- Laelia bradei (bought a larger, stronger plant this time as previous plant isn’t doing too well. Will try giving this a different spot in the greenhouse)
Here are the photos of the plants above which are in flower

At the Rare Plant Fair on the 27th of March, I bought the following plants:
- Ceropegia stapeliiformis
- Hoodia gordonii
- Huernia barbata
- Huernia quinta
- Huernia thurettii
- Orbea ???
- Stapelia hirsuta
- Stapelia gigantea
- Stapelia leendertziae
- Stapelia tsomoensis
- Stapelia unicornis
I’m not sure what the Orbea is. What I do know is it’s a rambling/ground cover/creeping type. I thought the label was in the pot, but once I arrived home I noticed it was missing. It’s supposed to be dropping it’s leaves now for the coming winter, but will come back in spring. Here’s a photo I just took of Huernia thurettii

On Saturday the 13th, I bought a few flasks (of which the Microcoelia exilis and Cymbidium Australian Midnight were donated – thank you, Richard):
On Tuesday the 23rd, I bought 2 new plants off the plant sales table at the March COS meeting:
and took 3 plants home from the raffle:
Then on the 26th some plants I’d ordered arrived in the post:
And on the 28th I got the following:
Unfortunately no photos yet. Will update as soon as I’ve taken a few. I’d also bought a few Stapeliads from the Rare Plant Fair in Stellenbosch on the 27th, but that’ll be another post.
